Flower Workshop at Barb's Barn

Click on thumbnail for full size image

It was a sunny October Saturday morning for the turned flowers workshop

There are several types of turned flowers in the bouquet with almost limitless potential for creativity

The instructor for the turned flower class was Paul Mazuchowski

Paul brought one of his bouquets with an assortment of different flower types

Paul started the workshop with a demonstration of his techniques for the various flowers

His first style is a tulip inspired shape

He starts by turning his blank round and to a rough shape

Leaving sufficient strength at the base, he shapes the top and hollows the inside

The inside is sanded to a finish point

The tail center is used to help support the flower and the bottom part is shaped to finish

At completion, the flower is parted off

Using the original block as a glue block, he begins turning the stigma in a contrasting wood

Finished and parted off, the stigma is assembled into the flower along with the stem

The finished flower
