Rich Mialki shows his old time toy design he's making for the fair

After a short break, Jim Meier gets the demonstration for the evening started

He leads off with the Sorby texturing tool and it's assorted wheels

Depending on the wheel, speed, presentation, and duration, a variety of textures are possible

Jim shows some of the presentation angles possible with the tool

Another tool is the Proxxon or similar rotary tool with a cutter installed

After using the cutter, Jim highlights the area by using a small torch for burning

With a pyrography tool such at the Detailmaster, simple or very intricate patterns, even pictures, are possible

A closer look at the example burned decorations

In the AAW Journal recently, Jim shows the dimpling effects of using a welding scaler

An interesting pattern is possible very quickly ...

providing you round the tips of the rods before hand

Jim shows a ball cutter in a Dremel type rotary tool

This particular tool does what a Dremel does but has less vibration

It was an interesting demo covering a wide variety of surface decoration techniques and tools

Jim fields questions and the meeting concludes
