There was a nice assortment of gifts that will be give to the school staff members as a "thank you"

During the break, Kurt Hertzog gets ready for the evenings demonstration

He opens the demo with a the range in size of skews available

Kurt explains that he likes to hollow grind his skews ...

which allows easy sharpening using a fine diamond hone

A demonstration of one way to fixture skews to do the initial grind

He explains the various parts of the skew chisel and the cuts that are made with each

Kurt shows how stock can be roughed using a skew ...

and then it can be used to do planing cuts

A safety center or dead center can be used by beginners rather than a spur center while practicing with a skew

With each type of cut, Kurt shows the part of the tool doing the cutting and what area of the bevel is rubbing

After doing end grain cuts, he shows V cuts and rolling beads with a skew

Kurt shows the attitude of the skew when using as a scraper to fair cuts together ...

and a sketch of the proper position of the edge to the work

After fielding questions, it's time to clean and pack up

The area gets swept and straightened as everyone heads home
