Jim sets up his fixtures for making sandpaper discs |
He takes small squares of sandpaper and presses them between plates mounted on the lathe |
The fixtures are simple wooden fixtures made of maple and melamine |
Pressed between the two pieces of the fixture, Jim cuts around the mandrel with a utility knife |

It only takes a few moments ... |
and you produce a stack of round sandpaper sheets ready for mounting with spray adhesive |
You can easily produce velcro backed material using the same technique |
Jim's favorite power sander is an angled Sioux Tools variable speed drill |

Jim moves to making the padded sanding disc holder |
With the mounting screw recessed into the face, the square block is turned round |
Once it's round, the desired padding material is bonded to it using contact cement then trimmed round |
We had a great turnout for the meeting with a good crowd staying for the demos |
