Turners 2 President Kurt Hertzog gets set up for the Tormek demo at the Rockler store on Saturday, June 11 |
Ed Jolls, store manager and one of the sponsors of the Penturners Rendezvous Pen Display, poses with the display that Kurt brought |
The pen display, to be hand carried to Provo UT the next day, was on display in the store during the demos |
Kurt has the Tormek and his grinder set up for the demos of the day |

There were folks waiting for the 9:30 am demonstration start |
Kurt shows how to full to fill the stone water resevoir ... |
and how to use the grading stone to set the wheel coarseness |
He starts off the demo by flattening the back on a customers wood chisel |

Kurt explains the importance of the flattening and shows the area of need |
He explains the concept of a secondary bevel, uneeded here, but commonly used by those using only a bench stone |
Doing tools brought in by customers, Kurt completes one customers chisel and moves to a different customers carving veiner tool |
He shows how the tool is set and adjusted in the appropriate sharpening jig |

It only takes a few moments to correct the customers problems and put a proper edge on the tool |
It is then honed on the leather strop while still in the jig |
The tool is left in the jig until its tested for its sharpness |
Appearance is nice but the real test is the way it performs with Kurt showing the customer how it works |

Kurt explains how a couple of rare earth magnets in the bottom of the water reservoir collect the metal debris |
Having done pocket knives, turning tools, bench chisels, and carving tools, Kurt finishes with a large kitchen knife |
After sharpening, the knife is honed on the leather strop |
The end of the days demos and it's time to pack up |
